Once you become a parent, planning a fun date night (or day) with your significant other can be a challenge. First, there’s finding the time and actually making it a priority. Then you have to find and book a sitter (we’re looking at you, Nanna). And, of course, there’s the age-old question: What should we actually do?

While we all know how great (and tempting) it can be to simply watch a movie and chill after the kids go to bed, it’s also nice to get out of the house and do something a little different together. After all, keeping things fun and exciting is an important part of any relationship.

We’ve rounded up some of the best date night ideas Bucks County has to offer this fall and winter. From intimate cocktail bars to relaxing sound baths, there’s something here for every kind of couple.

Tuck Into a Cozy Bar

On a crisp fall evening or cold winter night, there’s something inherently romantic about cozying up at a dimly lit bar — and Bucks County has no shortage of places to do just that. In Bristol Borough, head behind the bookcase at 304 Wine & Beer to discover Daddy Tom’s, a speakeasy-style cocktail lounge with an intimate atmosphere and creative cocktails. Or cross the bridge to Lambertville and down into The Wine Cellar at Lambertville Station, where the cozy chic setting is as good as the drinks. The Boat House in Lambertville is also worth a visit for the atmosphere alone.

See a Show

Dinner and a show is always a date-night classic. The Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope is the obvious choice, with professional productions in a historic theater (plus, you can turn the evening into a staycation with an overnight stay at the onsite Ghostlight Inn).

There are several other notable theaters worth exploring, though. Check schedules at the Bristol Riverside Theatre, Sellersville Theater, and Town and Country Players community theater in Buckingham for musicals, plays, and concerts.

Go to a Museum

Fall and winter are the perfect excuse to finally check out a local museum you’ve always wanted to visit. Wander through the spectacular rooms of Fonthill Castle, get lost among the fascinating collections at the Mercer Museum in Doylestown, or visit the new African American Museum of Bucks County in Langhorne, which explores the history, achievements and contributions of African Americans in Bucks County and beyond.

Try a Cooking Class

If you’re not too tired of weekly meal prepping — and/or you’re looking to learn some new techniques — consider a local cooking class. Conquering Cuisine in Doylestown regularly offers hands-on date-night and couples cooking classes, covering everything from Italian food and French cuisine to tacos and margaritas, tapas and paella. Classes typically run about two hours and include instruction, food and recipes, and you’re welcome to BYOB.

Take Advantage of Restaurant Weeks

Try Your Luck at the Casino

Play the slots or table games at Parx Casino or Bensalem, or catch a show at the Xcite Center. You can also have dinner at one of several onsite restaurants, including Parxgrill, Liberty Bell Gastropub, and Bambu.

Try Duckpin Bowling

Bucks County offers plenty of bowling alleys, from Thunderbird Lanes in Warminster to Lucky Strike in Feasterville. But for something a little more unique, head to Main Strike in Doylestown for duckpin bowling. Located inside Main Street Marketplace, the four-lane venue features smaller pins and lighter balls, and you don’t need bowling shoes. Main Strike also offers indoor mini-golf, golf simulators, shuffleboard, darts, and pool.

Sink Into a Sound Bath

The Prancing Peacock in Yardley hosts a variety of wellness workshops and events at its peaceful 12-acre studio, including a monthly sound bath. Bring blankets, pillows, and your partner for a two-hour meditation that includes chakra-tuned quartz crystal singing bowls, a celestial gong, melodic chimes, and natural soundscapes.

Indulge in a Spa Day

Bucks County has several day spas, including Serenity Day Spa & Wellness Center in Doylestown, Nurture Spa in New Hope, and Karma Hair Design and Wellness Spa in Yardley. Book a couples massage or solo treatments and grab lunch or dinner afterward.

Try a Dance Class

Take a private couples class at Fred Astaire Dance Studios in Doylestown, where you can learn to waltz, fox trot or tango, or try La Luna Dance Studio in Bristol for salsa and bachata. If you end up cutting a rug, consider joining a weekly class for a regular date night outing.

Go Shopping

With its annual lineup of kid-friendly events, Peddler’s Village is easily one of the best family attractions in Bucks County. But the shops are admittedly more fun (and less stressful) to browse without kids. Plus, you can grab a beer at Free Will Brewing to enjoy as you walk around, or warm up with a nonalcoholic concoction from The Cloak and Wand.

Enjoy a Wine Tasting

Trade dinner and drinks for an afternoon wine tasting. Crossing Vineyards & Winery in Newtown is a classic option, with tastings, vineyard views and the option to pair your visit with dinner nearby. Bishop Estate Vineyard & Winery and Aviator Vineyard & Winery in Perkasie are also worth considering.
