For the Ladies
For as long as there have been mothers, wives, girlfriends, and friends, there has existed a somewhat natural tendency to put ourselves last. We do the crafts, we get the snacks, we plan the dates, and we usually schedule. All. The. Things. And while we know that it all comes from a place of love, we also know that we could all do with a little down time . So before you organize another playdate for your kids, grab one of your best gal-pals for a playdate of your own at one of these awesome Galentine’s Day events. You’ll be so glad you did.

For the Kids
We love our kids, there’s no denying that. As a matter of fact, sometimes we love our kids SO much that we want to give them (and their classmates) everything their little hearts desire—including 5 million, heart-holding teddy bears and all the plastic tchotchkes (we’re looking at you pop-its and squishies). And while these trinkets are fun and definitely budget-friendly, their luster tends to wear off quickly. After a few days, the stickers have been stuck, the pencil toppers have been lost, and the squishes get all hairy. So we’ve gathered some simple, fun, new, ideas to help you shake things up in the classroom this year.

First off, how cute are these Candy Necklace Printables by Five Marigolds? If you have a printer, some scissors and crayons, it won’t get any easier than this. For an extra-personal touch, consider having your child “accessorize” the cards so that they more closely resemble the friends that they’re giving them to. Or better yet, if you have the time, buy some card stock and make them from scratch! Then your little ones can get really creative! (A tip for our non-necklace-wearing friends..the candy necklace can easily be made to look like a tie or scarf. Just change the placement of the slits on the paper. But honestly, boys wear necklaces too, so you could totally just roll with it.)
Looking to skip the candy altogether? Check out these fun, diy Valentine’s Day Bird Feeders by Simple Joy, or these adorable Seed Packet Valentines by Arts & Crackers. Both of these options are great because they provide your kids with a fun afternoon activity as well as an eco-friendlier gift for their friends!

And as for your kiddos, how about the gift of a shared experience? There’s no shortage of exciting, kid-friendly Valentine’s Day activities in Bucks County, so get out there and have some Valentine’s Day, family fun—together!

For the Love of Others
While it’s only natural to want to gush over our own families and friends at Valentine’s Day, it’s also important to remember that the love doesn’t have to end with our immediate circle. Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity to remind children of some of the ways that they can extend kindness and love to everyone around them. After all, kids are natural-born givers. So, this Valentine’s Day, why not foster that love of giving with one of these compassionate opportunities.
Check in With Your Local Food Pantry
Did you know that Bucks County has over 25 local food pantries? Check out the list here and consider volunteering or making a donation. Doing so during the cold, winter months, is especially helpful as their stocks tend to run quite low this time of year, especially in the categories of fresh fruit and veg.

Make a Card for a St. Jude’s Patient
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital makes it easy to spread a little love with hospital-bound patients with their custom, e-card creator. Featuring artwork by some of the patients themselves, these cards serve the dual purpose of fostering creativity and spreading good cheer. If you’re able to do so, consider making a donation afterwards. (Please note that while we’re sure this is appreciated, it is certainly not required to send the card.)
Color-a-Smile
Color A Smile is a nonprofit organization that distributes cheerful drawings to senior citizens, our troops overseas, and anyone in need of a smile. They have put smiles on millions of faces and you can too! Simply visit their website, follow the directions to print, color, and mail and you’re done! Spreading kindness doesn’t get any easier than that.
We hope this guide makes planning your Valentine’s Day just a little bit easier this year. Remember, if you decide to visit any of the events listed above or find a new business that you LOVE and just HAVE to share, please consider nominating them for a LOVE award so that we can help spread that love to the rest of our Bucks County Community.
Looking to enjoy some fun beyond the Bucks County borders, don’t forget to check our sister-sites Main Line Parent and Philadelphia Families for more Valentine’s Day fun!
