Northern Star Doula supports new and expectant parents through some of the most transformative experiences of their lives; pregnancy, birth, the immediate postpartum period, and life with a brand new baby. Birth Doulas assist parents in preparing for the birth experience, gathering local resources, creating birth and postpartum plans, and they provide physical, informational, and emotional support, comfort measures, and advocacy throughout the labor and birth process. Postpartum Doulas are also available to come to the home - day or night - to provide support through navigating the birth recovery process, newborn care, basic lactation, and more. Doula services are whatever you and your family need them to be.

As a student midwife, my first experience seeing Nicole in her role as doula had me very impressed. She was very diligent about tending to the spoken needs of the birthing client and her partner, as well as being tuned in to the unspoken needs as well. Her calming and grounding energy was a stabilizing force for the entire room. She communicated in such calm and gentle way that seemed to always put the client at ease. She gave reassure and helped her client understand what was happening, but also knew when to give space. In all, I thought Nicole to be an amazing doula and an asset to any birth team.

Nicole was invaluable during the birth of our second child. I desired a natural water birth and found myself considering other options during my labor. As soon as Nicole arrived during labor she pulled out her bag of tricks (quite literally) and i immediately felt so calm and supported. The counter pressure she placed on my back during each contraction helped with the pain immensely. She helped me stay present, relax and get through my birth naturally.

Nicole is an absolute blessing. My best decision in preparing for my birth was hiring Nicole as she provided crucial support leading up to and during my birth. She knew exactly what I needed without me even having to say anything during my birth. I felt so at ease with her from the start of getting to know her all the way to being by my side during delivery, her bedside manner is unparalleled. She is extremely respectful and also helps you really prepare mentally too, not to mention she is a wealth of information and resources. It meant the world to me to have such trust in her support as my family is halfway across the country so I only had my husband with me. If Nicole is not at my next births there will be very large shoes to fill… she is my fairy birth mother! Thank you, Nicole!

Nicole was such a strong advocate for me during the vbac birth of my son. I was left feeling totally supported and empowered. I was able to have an amazing birth due to her commitment to me even when doctors pressured me to go against my birth plan, she stayed by me with knowledge and encouragement. Northern Star Doula cared for our preemie NICU twins from two months old to seven months old overnight. Nicole Todd was knowledgeable, calming, and wonderful with our sons. By the time Nicole was done, the boys were sleep trained and at age 5, they still sleep through the night religiously. I would recommend Northern Star Doula and Nicole Todd for anyone looking for a doula!

Nicole was an AMAZING doula! She gave me the confidence and support I needed for an amazing birth experience. It was so helpful to bounce ideas off of her throughout my pregnancy about everything from providers to birth plans and she was super knowledgeable about all things related to birth. When my water broke, she was the first person I called to get advice. During the birth, she was just a very calming presence and I appreciated her low-key demeanor. After the birth, her role became critical as I had some complications. I was so grateful to have her support as the doctors, midwives, and nurses were in and out of the room. Her constant unwavering presence during that time was critical in keeping me calm and helping me to recover from the birth. She literally held my hand while my husband held our son in the first hours of his life and I am forever grateful for that. She was even sweet enough to go get me a Wawa hoagie (my pregnancy craving) to have as my first meal after giving birth. Most importantly, I always felt that she had my best interest at heart. This was exactly the support I needed to have the confidence and strength to achieve my VBAC. Northern Star Doula is the perfect name because Nicole was truly a guiding light throughout my pregnancy and birth. I would highly recommend her services!

Nicole stepped up to the plate for my husband and I when our original doula couldn’t make it to my labor and delivery due to a family emergency. Although I hadn’t had the opportunity to meet Nicole prior, it felt like I had known her my entire pregnancy. She was so warm and caring – she constantly made sure I was hydrated and had food in my system, made sure I had a cool rag, a comforting touch and kind words of support the entire time. She also provided encouragement and words of support for my husband when he was having a difficult time. I would not have had the wonderful and positivite birth experience I did without feeling!
