Bucks County Resources for New Parents

Bucks County offers a wealth of resources to support new parents as they navigate early childhood. From childcare services to parenting classes, there are many options available to help families thrive. Local organizations provide valuable guidance and foster connections among first-time parents. These resources ensure that new families in Bucks County receive the support they need.

 

Center for Parenting Education – Play ‘n Share

1863 Old York Road, Suite B, Abington

 Play ‘n Share is a discussion/support group for parents of infants and toddlers up to age 3 years. Children can play in the same room while parents come to gain support and discuss topics. Common topics includesleep issues, isolation, eating, social needs of children and parents, spousal support, parent and in-law management and more.

Since parental feelings of isolation are so prevalent and a cause for overly harsh disciplinary practices, this opportunity to talk with other parents and the two Parenting Educator facilitators is very significant. 

Doylestown Health Breastfeeding Support Group

Wednesdays, 10 – 11:30 AM 

Doylestown Hospital, 593 W. State Street, Doylestown

Join for the opportunity to meet other moms and babies and have your baby weighed at the Doylestown Health Breastfeeding Support Group. This group is facilitated by Doylestown Health board-certified lactation consultants (IBCLCs) here to help you meet your breastfeeding goals.

No registration is required. Parking available in the lot bordering State Street. Not comfortable meeting person? This event is also offered virtually on Thursdays at 10 AM.

 

Creative Parenting Classes

49 Irving Place, Feasterville

Creative Parenting in Feasterville is a fun, interactive class for toddlers and their parents. Each week, you’ll participate together in activities like crafts, exercise, fingerplays, songs, and storytime. These engaging experiences help toddlers develop essential social and academic skills.

Designed to prepare little ones for preschool and kindergarten, this class builds confidence and learning through play. New sessions begin soon, offering a great opportunity to bond with your child while supporting their early development.

Doylestown Health CPR for Family and Friends

Doylestown Hospital 595 W. State St., Conference Room C, Doylestown

Doylestown Health frequently offers CPR classes designed for family and friends who want to learn lifesaving skills. These classes provide hands-on training in adult, child, and infant CPR, as well as how to use an AED. Taught by experienced instructors, the course is perfect for parents, grandparents, and caregivers. No certification is required, making it accessible for anyone looking to be prepared in emergencies.

Participants will gain confidence in responding to choking and cardiac emergencies. The classes are informative, easy to follow, and open to all skill levels. Learning CPR can make a crucial difference in a life-threatening situation. Join a session and be ready to help when it matters most!

Saint Mary Medical Center Motherhood Class

1201 Langhorne-Newtown Road, Langhorne

Saint Mary Medical Center offers comprehensive Motherhood Classes to help expectant parents prepare for childbirth and newborn care. The class includes a hospital orientation, details on the admission process, visitor policies, and labor and delivery information. Parents will also learn breathing and relaxation techniques, C-section details, and how to choose a pediatrician.

Classes are held on the second Sunday of each month in the Medical Staff Conference Room on the first floor of the Outpatient Building. Group size is limited to nine couples, so early registration is recommended. Participants should bring two pillows, a small blanket, and a baby doll for hands-on practice. Snacks and refreshments are encouraged, and a lunch voucher for the cafeteria is provided.

Bucks County Resources for Parents Facing Hardships

Bucks County hardship support provides parents with essential resources to help them navigate difficult times. Organizations like YWCA and Family Service offer programs for childcare, financial aid, and family counseling. These resources ensure parents have the support needed to create a stable and positive environment for their families.

 

Parenting Together – Co-Parenting Classes

Family Service, 4 Cornerstone Drive, Langhorne

Family Service’s Parenting Together program offers co-parenting classes for those struggling with communication after separation, divorce, or other conflicts. These classes help parents, grandparents, foster parents, and other caregivers work together effectively in their child’s best interests. Using an evidence-based curriculum, participants learn anger management, conflict resolution, and communication skills to improve cooperative parenting. Key topics include handling stress, setting routines, and fostering positive family values.

Classes are held virtually in eight one-hour sessions for $500 per person. Participants receive a Certificate of Attendance upon completion and payment. Sessions are ongoing and can be taken in any order for flexibility.

YWCA of Bucks County

The YWCA of Bucks County offers Family Support Programs at local schools and Family Centers strategically located within low-income apartment complexes. These centers act as a one-stop-shop for underserved women and families, providing access to essential services. With their convenient locations, they ensure that families have access to the resources they need without traveling far from home.

Staffed by multi-lingual coordinators, the YWCA Family Centers offer a diverse array of programs aimed at supporting the growth and development of children, youth, and families. These programs are designed to promote positive outcomes, helping families overcome challenges and thrive. Through these centers, families gain the support and resources needed to navigate life’s difficulties and create a positive environment for their children.
