Frederick Douglass Returns to the Newtown Theatre

February 4, 2026

120 N State St., Newtown

On February 4, 2026 — exactly 162 years after Frederick Douglass spoke at Newtown Hall (now Newtown Theatre) — the historic venue will welcome nationally acclaimed Douglass impersonator Darius Wallace. He will present a one‑man theatrical performance titled Frederick Douglass: The Self‑Made Man & The Work of Rebuilding a Nation. In this event, Wallace embodies Douglass to deliver his advocacy for the Freedmen’s Bureau, as well as his vision for a nation united by justice and equality.

February 6, 2026

188 S Canal St., Yardley

This one-hour program honors Frederick Douglass’s remarkable journey from enslavement to becoming one of America’s most influential voices for freedom and equality. This event portrays key moments from his life as an escaped slave, powerful orator, writer, and lifelong advocate for justice. The presentation includes a Q&A session that connects Douglass’s words to current issues of justice, liberty, and equality.

Lower Bucks Underground Railroad Bus Tours

February 10, 2026

215 E Richardson Ave., Langhorne

A guided bus tour will depart from First Baptist Church in Langhorne and visit Bensalem AME Church, Bethlehem AME Church, and the Harriet Tubman Memorial Statue. Additionally, lunch will be at the historic Continental Tavern in Yardley. The tour is scheduled for Tuesday, February 10, 2026, from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM. The cost is $65 per person.

Presentation: The Underground Railroad: Bucks County & Beyond! at Gather Place Museum

February 14, 2026

Presented by Gather Place Museum, this one‑hour lecture provides an overview of Bucks County’s Underground Railroad. This one‑hour lecture explores Rosa Parks’s life and legacy. It shows how her stand on a Montgomery bus helped spark the Bus Boycott. Through vivid narration and high‑quality visuals, the program highlights her partnership with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the everyday citizens who advanced the Civil Rights movement. Costume elements reflect her era, and a concluding Q&A invites reflection on civic courage and community action.

Central Bucks Underground Railroad Bus Tours

February 24, 2026

First-Person Reenactment: Harriet Tubman – “Her Life, Her Legacy – A Journey Through Time” at Gather Place Museum

February 28, 2026

This one‑hour program highlights Harriet Tubman’s extraordinary life through a historically grounded, first‑person portrayal by a Gather Place Museum reenactor. The program presents four vivid scenes with period‑appropriate costume changes. It follows her journey from childhood as Araminta “Minty” Ross to her later years as the freedom fighter known as “Moses.” The narrative emphasizes Tubman’s enduring legacy of courage, resilience, and justice, while concluding with a Q&A of meaningful dialogue.

Can’t make it to an event? Here are a few resources to help your family learn, reflect, and engage with Black history together at home.

  • Check out the featured Stories on Story Corps. This non-profit media organization helps real people tell their story audio stories, podcast episodes, and animated shorts. 
  • Visit National Geographic Kids and read the story of Black History Month, which also highlights important Black heroes of the past and present. 
  • Sit down together as a family and watch videos that tell the stories of Black Americans who made important contributions to racial justice. The website We Were Teachers has compiled 55 Black History Videos Everyone Should Watch, categorized for elementary and middle and high school students.
