Alexia Kirk is a 2025 Bucks County Parent A+ Educators Award Winner

Bucks County Parent’s A+ Educators Awards celebrate exceptional educators making a lasting impact in our community. Laura was nominated by a parent and selected based on her achievements, innovation, and dedication to creating meaningful learning experiences. Nominations for the 2026 A+ Educator Awards open with the launch of our Spring Education Guides on March 22, 2026, and will remain open through July 4, 2026.

The First-Year Teacher Who Shows Up for Every Student

In her first year of teaching, Alexia made it her mission to attend at least one after-school activity for each of her fifth graders—soccer games, dance recitals, and concerts. “I want each child to know that what matters to them, matters to me,” she says. “I want to be that teacher for my students.”

Reflecting on how she managed it, Alexia shares, “It was difficult, but I’m not married and I don’t have kids, so this is the time to do it. It makes a connection with them. It makes them feel valued and supported.”

Turning Lessons into Interactive Adventures

Alexia brings abstract concepts to life with creative, hands-on lessons. When students struggled with coordinate planes, she used a ladder to illustrate the X and Y axes, helping every student visualize and understand the concept. “I promise you, all 24 of my kids got what the X and Y axis was after that,” she says. She also uses storytelling, songs, and playful activities to spark engagement. One student even wrote a poem calling her their “Miss Honey,” a testament to the meaningful connections she builds.

Building Relationships and Supporting Every Student

Whether connecting with quieter students, checking in periodically, or finding common interests, Alexia prioritizes relationships alongside academics. “Communication and trust are the key two things in a relationship,” she says. “That shows them they can feel supported.”

She shares how she nurtures introverted students: “Even if it’s a slow check-in, I make sure I talk to every student periodically. I find one thing we have in common and go from there. It could be something small, like anime, because that’s what they’re into.”

Fostering Growth and Resilience

Alexia emphasizes progress over perfection, creating a classroom where mistakes are seen as opportunities to learn. “Nothing’s perfect. That’s why progress over perfection is 100%,” she says. She encourages students to be themselves, take the lead, and enjoy learning. “Let them be quirky. Let them have their own days. Let them make mistakes. You’re there to guide them, not do it for them.”

Making a Lasting Impact

Alexia plans to continue building on her first-year foundation, creating interactive lessons and meaningful connections with her students. “Teachers touch the lives of their kids; you’re part of their story,” she reflects. “Even if they don’t remember everything I taught, they’ll remember my kindness. That’s a Miss Honey moment.”

Even in just her second year, Alexia’s creativity, dedication, and genuine care are already leaving a meaningful impression on her students and the Bedminster Elementary community.
