All new parents have experienced the mix of joy and fatigue that comes along with their little bundle of joy. It’s the type of tiredness that makes even thinking about making dinner a challenge. Cooking a full meal from scratch? That can wait.

Local chefs across Bucks County are crafting delicious, practically homemade food that’s ready to bring straight to the table, so you can focus on what matters most. As a bonus, you’ll support a local business when you grab a meal for yourself, friends, or family who’ve recently welcomed a new baby.

Whether your idea of comfort food is fried chicken and slaw or a plant-based bowl, these eight eateries serve up fresh, tasty takeout options in Bucks.

Nourish Kitchen & Catering

619 West Market Street, Perkasie, PA 18944

This popular Perkasie spot serves up a rotating menu of Bucks County’s best family meals. Each week, Nourish posts a new menu on its Facebook page with American comfort food for one or two people.

They always include a few healthy entrees with sides, such as pork tenderloin with garlic roasted potatoes and a veggie medley. You can often snag lighter lunch and breakfast options, too — think scones, soups, sandwiches, and salads. Call to place your order and pick up during the designated hours, Tuesday through Saturday.

Meat Wagon BBQ

116 East Broad Street, Quakertown, PA 18951

Meat Wagon BBQ’s stall in the Trolley Barn food hall dishes out family packs that can feed two to five people. Known for its melt-in-your-mouth brisket and subtly sweet cornbread, the popular local spot lets you build your own feast by combining your choice of meats with four sides.

Note that the Quakertown location requires in-person ordering and pick-up, whereas the Hatfield and Harleysville locations allow for ordering ahead.

Nourish by MAMA

34 East State Street, Doylestown, PA 18901

At Nourish by Mama, Kendal Bajek favors local, organic, and plant-based ingredients in her ready-to-go bowls, sandwiches, and wraps. For some of the healthiest family meals to-go in Bucks County, pick up a few of the regularly updated entrees.

The signature Nourish bowl is vegetarian and gluten-free, with your choice of egg or avocado over a bed of fresh baby spinach, quinoa, and tender sweet potatoes tossed in a lemon vinaigrette and chipotle aioli. However, the specials change daily and range from overnight oats to smoothies.

Lima Fusion

32 South Main Street, New Hope, PA 18938

Lima Fusion’s empanada lunchbox is ideal for new parents craving Peruvian home cooking. Take your pick of two or three types of empanadas — try the classic ham and cheese with the beef picadillo — and enjoy them alongside a salad and a house-crafted drink.

The passionfruit refresher serves as a naturally sweet pick-me-up after a sleepless night. Lima Fusion resides within New Hope’s Ferry Market, which has ample other takeout options if you want to grab a few types of cuisine to make a meal.

Lovebird

Multiple locations

Nothing says “comfort food” quite like a bucket of fried chicken. Lovebird elevates the beloved American staple by taking antibiotic-free chicken and pairing it with sides made from non-GMO ingredients.

Its family meal includes popcorn chicken with five extras: mac and cheese, house-made slaw, crispy Brussels sprouts, fried pickles, and hand-cut fries. It’s enough to feed a pair of parents and up to three little ones.

Bomba

2930 South Eagle Road, Newtown, PA 18940

When you’re too tired to make Taco Tuesday happen without a little help, let Newtown’s Bomba lend a hand. It puts together family boxes featuring the signature tacos and sides.

You pick from proteins like coconut shrimp, smoked Brussels sprouts, or chicken tinga, and the chef tucks them inside the Bomba Taco Box for a build-your-own experience. The boxes also come with tortillas, beans and rice, fresh guac, and house-made chips, making them some of the heartiest family meals to-go in Bucks County.

Thyme and Plate

6208 Fleecy Dale Road, Carversville, PA 18913

Every overstuffed sandwich at Thyme and Plate starts the same way: on a pillow of freshly baked focaccia. At least, that’s until the scratch-made bread sells out — and it always does.

Stop in early to grab a few sandwiches filled with fresh ingredients like bacon, burrata, and arugula (a fresh twist on the BLT) or slow-roasted pork and provolone. The latter is fondly dubbed the Philly Special. The casual takeout spot also offers breakfast sandwiches and pastries.

It can’t hurt to carbo-load before a night of caring for your newborn. Enter Villagio Cucina and its family-style pasta meals. Led by the Caputo family — who actually hail from southern Italy — the eatery sits adjacent to Peddler’s Village and dishes out four- or five-course family meals.

The meals include, of course, your choice of freshly made pasta, such as penne alla vodka or rigatoni al pomodoro. You also get to pick an app, salad, and a main course.
