The Best Staycation Spots for Moms in Bucks

Mama needs a staycation. Here's where to go.

Sometimes mama just needs a staycation. She’s been running around town nonstop catering to everyone else’s needs while hers have fallen to the wayside.

At least, that’s how I feel now and again. I don’t need to hop on a plane and lounge on a deserted beach (though that does sound tempting too!). I just want to meander down the streets of my favorite towns without lugging the double stroller behind me. Or sit down and sip a cup of coffee without fighting to keep said coffee out of my toddler’s grasping hands. I want to crack open a book outside on the lawn without having to worry that I’m about to be tackled by my five-year-old.

Enter, the staycation. Picture it with me. The kids and dad are off at grandma and grandpas for the week or weekend and you have that whole stretch of time to do absolutely whatever you want. What would that look like for you? Sleeping in? Using your own bathroom uninterrupted by little hands pushing on the door?

Let’s dream a little further! Below, we’ve listed a few ideas, but Bucks County is overflowing with tons of options. After all, we’re fortunate to live in a place where people travel from all over the country to spend their “real” vacations here!

Stay at a Local Bed and Breakfast

Leave the dirty dishes and laundry at home and get cozy in one of Bucks County’s charming bed and breakfasts. At Canalview Guesthouse in Morrisville, you can elevate your staycation by staying in 100-year-old summer home decked out in serene, comfortable, charming decor. You will feel like you are on a retreat! For another unique getaway, The Tree House at Bridgeton House, a luxury suite nestled among the tree tops, has become a favorite destination to those near and far.

Grab a Meal With Breathtaking Views

Now I know I said staycation, which involves zero international travel, but prepare to be mentally transported to Europe when dining outside at Martine’s RiverHouse Restaurant. Located inside a charming yellow house right alongside the Delaware River, this establishment serves meat and seafood prepared with European flair that will have feeling like you’re dining out on the Siene.

Cuddle a Cat

No one can feel stressed when looking at an adorable kitten. It’s one of life’s little known facts. At Mewow Cafe in Doylestown, you can spend some time snuggling adoptable cats and kittens in their cat room, followed by partaking in some delectable desserts, delicious organic coffee or artisan tea.

Pamper Yourself

When was the last time you truly pampered yourself? If you can’t answer that question then now’s the time! Belle Palace in Warrington is an overwhelming local favorite for deluxe spa manicures and pedicures (don’t forget the foot and leg massage). The only thing you have to worry about here is deciding your color.

Restore With Your Favorite Cuppa Joe, No Microwave Needed

Enjoy a cup of your favorite coffee, latte or tea without having to worry about reheating it multiple times. Grab a window seat at Nonno’s Italian Coffee Parlor and catch up with a friend during your staycation or just sip and watch the foot traffic.

Get Lost in Art

I still remember the first and last time I took my daughter to an art museum. My three year old son was limboing under the various velvet dividers the museum had set up to protect the art from the public, aka handsy kids as the museum guard eyed us warily. Though the Michener Art Museum in Doylestown welcomes kids, you may have a more relaxing time meandering amongst this world class facility on your own.

Sip A Little Vino at a Local Winery

To live in Bucks County is to live in one of the premier grape-growing regions of the East Coast. Head to Crossing Vineyards and Winery and sip your way through a guided tasting of 10 award-winning wines. Or take the winding drive up River Road to the Sandcastle Winery, where you can choose from 12 noble vines of Europe are all grown directly on the estate. And yes, it really does feel like you’re in a castle straight out of a fairy tale.

Spend the Day in a Russian or Turkish Bath

Give yourself plenty of time at this one. At the Southampton Spa, clocks serve little purpose. Admission is by the day, and trust me, you will truly want to spend your entire day here exploring the various amenities, which also include a “snow room,” massage room, saunas, pool and hot tub. Inside the Russian bath, recline on a tiered pinewood bench and enjoy the wet heat created by pouring water on river rocks. Then head across the hall and enjoy the regulated humidity of the Turkish Bath room, pouring water over yourself to cool down and relax!
