A Passion Turned Purpose

Brittany’s journey began with a simple love for capturing the world around her. “From a young age, I’ve been inseparable from my camera, always capturing the world around me,” she shares. In 2019, this passion evolved into a mission to help others when she started documenting local businesses and sharing their stories on social media.

Rising to the Challenge of COVID-19

The true impact of Brittany’s work became evident during the COVID-19 pandemic. As businesses struggled, her social media presence exploded, becoming a lifeline for many local establishments. “Businesses credited me with increased exposure that kept their doors open, and the community turned to my page for recommendations,” Brittany recalls. This realization of her platform’s power became the driving force behind her work.

Navigating Authenticity and Sustainability

As her influence grew, Brittany faced the challenge of maintaining authenticity while ensuring the sustainability of her work. She made the difficult decision to start charging a small fee for partnerships, a move she approached with transparency. “Now, I make it clear to prospective partnerships that my fee goes towards my time spent coming out to their location, editing photos/videos and the time I spent building my audience,” she explains. Crucially, she maintains her integrity by only posting about places she genuinely loves.

Recognition and Growth

Brittany’s dedication and unique approach have not gone unnoticed. She was recently selected to attend the prestigious 2024 MATPRA Media Marketplace in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, an invitation-only event for travel journalists and content creators. This recognition signifies the growing impact of her work in the travel journalism space.

A Vision for the Future

Looking ahead, Brittany dreams of taking her passion for showcasing local culture nationwide. “My dream is to embark on a journey across the United States, shining a light on the heart and soul of small towns and the incredible mom-and-pop shops that keep these communities going,” she shares. Her goal is to create content that not only highlights iconic sights but also weaves in unique experiences offered by local businesses.

Advice for Aspiring Changemakers

Brittany’s advice for others looking to make an impact is rooted in authenticity and perseverance. “Meaningful impact starts with a spark – a passion or cause that ignites your fire,” she says. She encourages others to embrace their authenticity, carve their own paths, and remember that growth is a journey, not a destination.
