Railroad Festival

September 27, 2025 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm
The Phillipsburg Railroad Festival offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore the town’s rich railroading history across three walkable areas, beginning at 11 a.m. in Area 1 at Shappell Park and the surrounding streets. This area features food and retail vendors, live music, and the Centerville and Southwestern Railroad—a miniature train ride operated by the Phillipsburg Railroad Historians. Guests can also view a collection of vintage buses on display, provided by the Friends of the NJ Transportation Heritage Center.

Area 2 highlights the historic Phillipsburg Union Station, built in 1914 and currently undergoing restoration. During the festival, the station’s first floor will be open for public tours. Nearby, the Phillipsburg Union Tower—a former CNJ switch tower under restoration since 2007—will also be open for visitors to explore and learn about its historical significance.

Area 3 is home to the Delaware River Railroad Excursions, where attendees can book a ride on The River Train or The Warren County Winery Train. These scenic trips feature beautifully preserved railroad equipment, including an operating steam locomotive. The festival invites guests of all ages to discover Phillipsburg’s proud railroad legacy and celebrate more than 170 years of rail history.
