Juneteenth Tours at Peter Wentz Farmstead

June 21 @ 10:00 am - 3:30 pm

The Peter Wentz Farmstead invites the public to commemorate Juneteenth, the holiday recognizing the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. Special guided tours will be offered throughout the weekend, focusing on the experiences of those enslaved by the Wentz family and how their lives reflect the broader history of slavery in early Pennsylvania.

Visitors will hear the story of Jack, an enslaved man who twice escaped the Farmstead in search of freedom. The tours will also highlight Hannah Till and William Lee, who were brought to the site with General George Washington during the Philadelphia Campaign.

These programs aim to explore the often untold and complex history of slavery in Pennsylvania. As a recognized site on the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom, the Peter Wentz Farmstead offers a powerful setting to engage with this important history.

The program is free to attend, but timed tickets must be reserved in advance. Tours are recommended for individuals ages 13 and older. The final tour of the day begins at 3:00 PM, and space is limited.
