International Family Day: Stories from Japan
June 11 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Enjoy an afternoon in celebration of Japanese culture as the Michener hosts International Family Day. Myths and fables from ancient and modern Japan will come to life as Kuniko Yamamoto enchants audiences with dramatic storytelling in Origami Tales. Visitors of all ages are invited to participate in artmaking activities inspired by the exhibition Mid-Century to Manga: The Modern Japanese Print in America.
Art Activities 12-2pm
- Join in on an origami making workshop
- Make a miniature koinobori, or colorful flying carp windsock traditionally flown above family homes to celebrate Children’s Day in Japan
- Take a scavenger hunt through the Michener Art Museum Galleries
- Take a docent-led tour of Mid-Century to Manga: The Modern Japanese Print in America
- Celebrate International Family Day at our digital Selfie Booth from DigiBooths and share your photos with friends and family via text or email.
To attend the 11am performance of Origami Tales, advance registration is required. The performance will run for 45 minutes with no intermission. Artmaking activities are free with museum admission. Please note, International Family Day is not a drop-off program. Family participation is encouraged.
